Edric Ong: Sustaining and Supporting the Arts and Crafts
of Traditional Cultures 7 p.m. Seattle Asian Art Museum,
Volunteer Park, Alvord Board Room. A SAM Community Partner
Program in collaboration with Jungle Arts and Flora and
the Seattle Textile and Rug Society. Artist and noted
textile authority Edric Ong of Kuching, Malaysia, has
devoted his remarkable career to researching and promoting
traditional arts and crafts of indigenous peoples. Edric’s
talk will focus on his experience with Rumah Garie, the
famous Iban weaving longhouse in the interior of Sarawak.
Edric will be joined by two Iban master weavers and a
musician/artist. Suggested donation: $5.
July 17
Radical Women Summer Reading Circle featuring “Sister
Outsider” by Audre Lorde. Join a weekly discussion
on the writings of Audre Lorde (1934-1992) complied in
“Sister Outsider: Essays and Speeches.” Lorde,
a self-described Black lesbian, mother, warrior and poet
grew up in Harlem, the daughter of Caribbean immigrants.
Her works address the many issues she tackled in her life.
Mondays, beginning July 17, 7-8:30 pm. 1437 – 20th

First Annual Seattle Black Pride Film Festival
Seattle Asian Art Museum, Volunteer Park, Stimson Auditorium
A SAM Community Partner Program in collaboration with
Seattle Black Pride (SBP) in conjunction with Three Dollar
Bill Cinema. Celebrate an exciting day of features and
short films focused on people of diversity and color,
produced and directed by cutting edge filmmakers from
around the world. Local community support organizations
will be present to showcase important issues and distribute

The Power of Hope Presents: "WILD HOPE"
Come join us for a fantastic week long adventure at the
Tierra Learning Center in Leavenworth, WA. Power of Hope
will combine the arts: dance, spoken word, hip hop, drumming,
drawing, painting, theater, and more with wilderness &
nature staff bringing environmental expertise to help
you learn about our natural world and how to take action
to protect it. We’ll explore the natural beauty
of the Central Cascades Mountain region, taking a gentle
river raft, and exploring canyon trails as well as our
own creativity and have a blast while we’re doing
it. If you want to take an active role in creating a positive
future, saving our planet, learn leadership skills, meet
amazing people and have a terrific time in the process
– come to Wild Hope – July 21 -27th! Cost
is $395, and scholarships are available. For more information

The Power of Hope unleashes the positive potential of
youth through arts-centered intergenerational and multicultural

and delicious foods from the countries and cultures of
EarthCorps international corpsmembers! World Nights are
a fun introduction to the rich global community of EarthCorps
and our wonderful international participants. Join us
in celebrating their journeys to Seattle, and get inspired
by their courage and charisma! Countries: This year’s
World Nights feature countries including Tajikistan/Uzbekistan,
Dominica, Colombia, Mongolia, Thailand, Russia, Tanzania,
